Step-3: Then it will open the Verify ownership dialog box, where we need to verify that you are the owner of the website. Here there are various options to verify the ownership.

  • HTML file: We can verify the ownership by uploading an HTML file to your website. You need a little bit of technical knowledge for this.
  • HTML tag: In this case, we need to add a meta tag to your site’s homepage. This is the method we are going to use.
  • Google Analytics: We can use Google Analytics to verify the ownership. In fact, if you have already added Google analytics it will automatically for you.
  • Google Tag Manager: We can also use a Google Tag Manager account to verify the ownership.
  • Domain name provider: Here we need to add a DNS record with Google, little technical knowledge is enough for this.

Here, I will show the HTML tag method to verify the ownership.

So expand the HTML tag in the below screen. And then click on the Copy button to copy the HTML tag. This will give a tag like the below:

<meta name="google-site-verification" content="FX0rvDYqThg1e-7HeeeeDKa1JNCda5WF7VrhrooSEEE0" />

We need to add this tag in the <head> or before the first <body> section of the site home page.

Do not click on the Verify button, Just copy the code.

What is sitemap.xml in SEO

The sitemap file is an XML file that contains all the website URLs like it can have all the Post URLs, Category URLs, Post Tags URLs, etc.

Once we submit this .xml file to Google, it will be easier for Google to find out and crawl our pages for search results. So, the sitemap file tells Google to know about all the files which are important to us and to rank.

It is always good to have a sitemap file for our website, though Google can find out all the pages if the internal link is properly given. Here is a good article on Learn about sitemaps.
